S much less known is that cholesterol levels begin to decline the more a person age groups.

People have different alleles, or variants, of APOE. Three of these alleles are APOE e2, APOE e3 and APOE e4. The APOE e4 allele is associated with an elevated risk for many aging-related diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular illnesses such as stroke and coronary heart disease. The APOE e2 allele, however, is associated with a decreased risk for these diseases. The increased risk for cognitive and cardiovascular illnesses among older adults who bring an APOE e4 allele may be due, partly, to the fact that these individuals are predisposed to having higher total cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol from midlife through late life, compared to people with the APOE 3 variant, said Brian Downer, lead UTMB and writer Sealy Center on Aging postdoctoral fellow. After 4 weeks, there is improvement in both chromium-treated groupings. Glycosylated hemoglobin over a 2 – to 3-month period was 6.6 percent in the high dose group, 7.5 percent in the low-dose group, and 8. – Disease Avoidance and Treatment by THE LIFE SPAN Extension Editorial Staff It occurs naturally in three different forms with a definite form creating nearly all dietary chromium. The common adult body contains between 0.4 and 6 mg of chromium and older people usually have lower levels. There exists a wide geographical variation in chromium amounts and population studies claim that the incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease is leaner in areas where chromium intakes are fairly high. Chromium is essential for normal sugar fat burning capacity.
